Lawn mowing in Morayfield: two kinds of street
Morayfield grew in two waves. The first left the wide, flat blocks between the railway line and Morayfield Road, around 700 to 800 square metres, with mature trees, older couch and kikuyu lawns and a lot of side access wide enough for a ride-on. The second filled in the estates south towards Burpengary and west along Oakey Flat Road with 400 to 500 square metre blocks, soft-leaf buffalo and narrow gates. Both need a fortnightly cut through summer, but they need it done differently: a wide deck and a lower cut on the old couch, a high cut and a catcher on the young buffalo.
The soil across Morayfield is heavier than the coast, so the lawns hold water after storms and grow hard through January and February. It is also nutgrass country; if you have glossy triangular stems shooting up between cuts, that is not the grass and it needs a sedge-specific treatment rather than pulling.
